Hotel Arkipelag was built during 1972-1973 by the Government of Åland (Ålands Landskapsregering) and makes up a architectural whole together with the government building and the Museum of Åland. The hotel business is today owned by Wiklöf Holding.
From March 2009 the core business was expanded to include "Alandica kultur & kongress" a congress hall directly adjacent to Hotel Arkipelag. Alandica can host groups up to 600 people.
